The wait is almost over!
Maleficent hits theaters in 18 days, and to celebrate, E! News and Walt Disney Pictures will be unveiling exclusive movie content every day this week! Directed by Robert Stromberg and written by Linda Woolverton, Maleficent stars Angelina Jolie as the titular villain from Sleeping Beauty. Elle Fanning plays Princess Aurora, with Vivienne Jolie-Pitt making a cameo as the young princess.
Speaking to Disney Movie Surfers, Jolie said she had "so much fun" bringing the animated character to life on the big screen. "She is elegant, beautiful and a little wicked," the actress said. "You know, I have my horns, which I love, and then I didn't want to take them off. I wanted to wear them all the time."
The Mistress of All Evil has always been Jolie's "favorite" Disney character. In Maleficent, however, Sleeping Beauty fans will gain new insight into the villainess. "You learn why she became who she is," Jolie teased. "You may look at the original movie in a new light, and that's part of the fun of it."
Maleficent will also introduce moviegoers to Diaval, played by Sam Riley. "He's a bird and he is everybody's fantasy best friend," Jolie said of the character, who was inspired by Sleeping Beauty's Diablo. "[Maleficent] can turn Diaval into anything she wants, including a man. But he always morphs into something that's strangely bird-like." With a laugh, the actress added, "He's a great wingman!"
Jolie said Maleficent is "wicked fun," full of "stunning creatures" and "a lot of action."
