It came as quite a surprise news of the couple's engagement broke Saturday. Not only because of Clooney's perma-bachelor status, but also because his romance with the U.K. human rights lawyer has been short—even by Hollywood standards!
Let's take a look back at the future Mr. and Mrs. Clooney's 7-month (!) road to engagement.
Oct. 24, 2013: Per People, who was first to report the engagement news, George, 52, and Amal, 36, were initially linked in the fall. The twosome bonded over dinner in London at Berners Tavern where they discussed a surveillance satellite program over Syria.
Oct. 30, 2013: George's rep told two truths and a lie (or maybe things really hadn't turned romantic between the actor and his future bride-to-be just yet), when he said his client was single, denying he was dating model Monika Jakisic, Katie Holmes or Amal.
March 2014 (early to mid-month): The pair was spotted vacationing together—and engaging in a bit of PDA—in the Seychelles. Then, on the weekend of March 14-16, the pair enjoyed a wildlife safari in Tanzania.
March 18, 2014: George and Amal were spotted leaving the Carlisle Hotel together in NYC.
March 24, 2014: Back to the good ol' U.S. of A.! George and Amal stepped out together for a romantic date night at Soho House in West Hollywood, Calif. An insider told E! News the pair arrives around 8:30 p.m. with another couple and enjoyed plenty of laughs throughout the evening
March 27, 2014: Double date! George and Amal grabbed sushi in Studio City, Calif., with buddies John Krasinski and Emily Blunt.
April 24, 2014: George's British ladylove was first spotted flashing a "massive" ring on her left ring finger Thursday, while dining at Malibu restaurant Nobu with Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber, one source told E! News. In the midst of that dinner, the couple reportedly told Edward Norton "were engaged!"
This will be the second wedding for George, who was married to Talia Blasam from 1989 to 1993.
