He asked for Brown to be released from custody, but Los Angeles Judge Greenberg denied the request as well the request to set bail. Brown's next court hearing for probation violation is now set for May 1 at 2 p.m. He will be held in custody in Los Angeles until then.
Chris Brown's trial has been delayed.
After the singer, who's been in jail since March 14, was brought to Washington, D.C., by U.S. Air Marshals in order to stand trial on a charge of misdemeanor assault stemming from a fight in October, his trial will now be delayed for months, according to NBC. Brown is accused of breaking another man's nose after the guy tried to squeeze into a picture with the R&B star and some female fans.
No specific date has been set for the trial, which could be scheduled for roughly six months from now. The delay comes after Brown's bodyguard Christopher Hollosy opted not to testify out of fear of self-incrimination.
Hollosy was also arrested with Brown in October. He was convicted of assault on Monday in a separate trial and is scheduled to be sentenced July 25. Until then, Brown's trial will be on hold, as the bodyguard is a key witness for both sides. U.S. Attorneys also denied Hollosy's request for immunity.
Meanwhile, Brown is being escorted back to Los Angeles by U.S. Air Marshals on another weeklong "Con Air" flight after his attorney, Mark Geragos, successfully argued that he should return to L.A. while his trial is delayed, saying his client is "in limbo."
"This may be the single most investigated misdemeanor," Geragos said. "I think it's a little over the top... It's nothing more than a bloody nose."
If Brown is convicted of the misdemeanor charges, he is facing a maximum sentence of 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
The F.A.M.E. artist was jailed in L.A. after once again being accused of violating the probation terms set after his assault conviction in 2009 involving Rihanna. L.A. Superior Court Judge James Brandlin had ordered Brown to remain at a residential treatment facility, but the singer was asked to leave the morning of March 14, after which a warrant was immediately issued for his arrest.
A hearing on his probation issues is scheduled for today in L.A.
Brown will not be present.
