NBCYour dreams of a Friends reunion will have to continue to be just that: dreams. In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane discussed the series finale and the temptation to reunite the cast almost 20 years after that little show debuted.
"Honestly, I have to go back to: The show is over. What was at the heart of the show is done. And let's be honest, it's 20 years later," Kauffman told the mag. "Nobody looks like they did then. And you're going to spend the whole time going, ‘Wow, he's aged. Or she's…'"
News of a Friends reunion swept the Internet in April 2013 after a radio station posted a fan-made image about a Thanksgiving reunion. Of course that was a hoax, but it got many people talking about the hit NBC comedy again. Jennifer Aniston addressed it on national TV more than once. Still, the duo said they hear from NBC and Warner Bros. from time to time about reunited the gang.
"If anyone wants Friends, turn on your TV! Amazingly, thank God, it's there. And these are all great actors that you're seeing all the time in other things," Crane said. "Marta and I've talked about this a lot: People say they want it, and the more that we say it's a bad idea, people [disagree]. But I think if we actually gave it to people, there would be such backlash."
Guess we'll have to settle for the various guest star roles on various comedies. Courteney Cox previously hosted Aniston and Matthew Perry on Cougar Town. Lisa Kudrow brought Cox, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc to her Showtime series Web Therapy.
