President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama See A Raisin in the Sun on Broadway

It's a special date night for President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

The commander in chief and first lady saw the Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Friday evening.

Denzel Washington, Anika Noni Rose, LaTanya Richardson, Sean Patrick ThomasBryce Clyde Jenkins and Sophie Okonedo star in Lorraine Hansberry's classic play.

According to People, the first couple and Secret Service made their way backstage during intermission to meet and take photographs with the cast.

During the curtain call and eventual standing ovation, Washington acknowledged the Obamas as he pointed and tipped his hat to the first couple.

"Tonight, our beautiful first couple @BarackObama & @michelleobama came to #RaisinInTheSun. What a joy to see you both! Thank you! Blessings," Rose tweeted following the show.

Thomas added, "Just performed a great American play, #ARaisinInTheSun, front of a great American president, @BarackObama, on #Broadway. Thrilled, humbled."

A Raisin in the Sun, which made its in 1959, tells the story of three generations of the Younger family in Chicago's South Side. It made history by becoming the first play written by an African American woman to be produced on Broadway.
