ABCBarbara Walters is opening up about leaving The View after 17 years on the morning talk show.
In a new interview with Variety, the legendary 84-year-old journalist says she won't watch The View after she retires next month (but for a good reason).
"I think it will make me feel bad," Walters said. "I think I will miss it. If I don't see it, I won't miss it."
Walters says The View will probably add two new cohosts after her departure. "We're experimenting a little bit," she dished. "Sometimes we think we should add a man."
"We need a conservative voice," Walters added. "We do try to present a different side."
Walters also reflected on the departures of Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck last year. Although the two separately announced they were leaving The View on their own accord, many wondered if they were secretly fired from the show.
"These are not Barbara and [View executive producer Bill Geddie's] decisions," Walters said. "The network is also involved. I think the feeling was if one went, both had to leave. We needed to shake things up."
"The fact that it's been on for 17 years amazes me," Walters said of her show. "The only way I can tell is when I think of some of the cast members, and the only original one is me."
