Fans of Rascal Flatts thought that something was off about their performance Sunday night at the ACM Awards, and it turns out that they were right.

Rumors began swirling that the band appeared to be singing to a backup track, or worse yet, not singing live altogether.

Days after their appearance on the awards show, the band admitted that they were lip-synching their hit "Rewind."

But the beloved country band had a good reason for why they weren't performing live…

They revealed on both Twitter and Facebook that lead singer Gary LeVox had lost his voice shortly before stepping onstage.

"After having performed several shows earlier in the week, Gary lost his voice," the band said in a statement made on their social media pages.

"So instead of canceling our commitment to do the show, we made a last minute decision to lip-synch. We've never done it before, and we're obviously not very good at it. We look forward to singing live again in the very near future!"

Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards were a smash success otherwise, with Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan reprising their co-hosting gig and bringing the house down.

The two poked fun at fellow country stars Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw and even tried their hand at taking a selfie a la Ellen DeGeneres' famous Oscars snapshot.

But the show wasn't all fun and games, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban both went home the top winners of the night with three awards each.
