Mice Love Cronuts, Too! Dominque Ansel Bakery Shuts Down Due to "Severe Mouse Infestation"

UPDATE: The Dominique Ansel bakery re-opened their doors this morning after completing the necessary tasks given to them by the Department of Health.

"We urge our customers to seek deeper details and answers before jumping to conclusions. And regardless of the hits, we will take every chance and criticism as a lesson learned and work harder to rise to the expectations you have of us and that we have of ourselves," the bakery team said on their Facebook.

Apparently, a number of New York City mice also love the tasty treats, and while we can sympathize with the critters (the croissant and donut hybrid is just so delicious!), they kind of ruined it for the rest of us, because now the famous Dominique Ansel bakery in SoHo has been shut down by the Department of Health due to "severe mouse infestation."

A notice on the famed bakery's door Thursday stated "Closed by order of the commissioner of Health and Mental Hygiene" after a customer posted a YouTube video of a mouse scurrying in the kitching of the bakery.

"The establishment was closed by the Department because of a severe mouse infestation that requires professional pest control services," said a health department spokesperson.

A rep for the bakery told Gothamist in an email early this morning that "the team and our staff went through an entire deep cleaning session that lasted 7 whole hours with some of managers pulling a full 24 shift and Chef on his knees searching yesterday. They didn't find anything and anticipate it may have come from the outside as we have a greenhouse and park with doors opened during the nicer weather days.

"As you guys know, cleanliness is something that is of utmost importance to us and in the close to three years we've been opened we have received nothing but A's on our health inspects."

Additionally, an employee for the bakery told the media website, "We were asked to re-cement the entire basement, which won't allow us work. We should be reopened on Monday...I don't think people realize the bigger ramifications of their actions and the harm it can bring to a small business. Our staff are heartbroken to have been such a target, but we will of course do our best to rise out strong."
