New month, new ‘do!

At least that's what appears to be the case for Lauren Conrad who posted a pretty pic of freshly-dyed lavender-hued hair this morning.

The style icon surprised fans with the light purple hair update on her blog this morning, and her trusted stylist Kristin Ess simultaneously uploaded a snapshot of the evidence (messy hair dye bowl, plastic comb and gloves) on Instagram as well.

Looks like everyone's loving lavender locks for spring!

Nicole Richie recently dyed her hair the same royal shade that Kelly Osbourne has made famous for some time now.

And while we're still somewhat skeptical that L.C. could very well be pulling a fast one on all of us (April Fool's joke, anyone?) we're always up for a fresh new update whenever the mood strikes.

Plus, we're quite convinced that blond babes look incredible in this feminine shade.

"This time, I decided to take the plunge and try a semi-permanent color. This one stays in for six to eight weeks before washing out. I really didn't think that purple was my color, but after seeing several others wear it recently, I decided to give it a try," Conrad blogged.

All jokes aside. we think Lauren looks pretty in purple!

UPDATE: Per Lauren Conrad's stylist, the hair color change was, in fact, an April Fool's Day joke. Ess tells us that the above photo was created in Photoshop.

"You have to be super blond to get a light lavender tone. Otherwise, it just won't read. I think that's what made this look so believable. You can see how blond Lauren is in the photo she just posted. If you have darker hair, it either has to be lightened or it would have to be done with a hair chalk," Ess told us exclusively.

If you're still inspired to dye your hair a fun new color, the beauty expert has some helpful pointers.

"Both Lauren and I love hair color conditioners. Davines Alchemic red conditioner is great. It comes out a very pale shade of pink and lasts for a wash or two. I'm obsessed with these water color hydrating hair masks that I got at Urban Outifitters. They have seafoam and peach and purple. If you want something more permanent I'm really into Pravana. They have a great range of fun colors. But you have to have that done by a pro."
