Is it hot in here or is it just Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena's (Nina Dobrev) off-the-charts chemistry?

The Vampire Diaries' fan favorite couple may technically be broken up right now, but then hasn't stopped them from engaging in a ridiculously hot exes-with-benefits relationship.

And that chemistry is on full display in this exclusive preview of what's to come on hit CW's hit drama, which was first shown at the PaleyFest panel (Hosted by our very own Kristin Dos Santos!) on Saturday night.

Also on display in the exclusive video below? Your first look at Markos, the series' new big bad, in action!

But before we get to the shiny new footage (which starts around the 07:45 mark in the video), let's look back on the life of our dearly departed Katherine Pierce (Dobrev) with a video montage of her greatest moments, shall we?

And while viewers will surely miss Katherine's sass and snark, Dobrev admitted she was ready to say goodbye to the character.

"Not as much as I missed my bed before Katherine was gone," she said when asked if she'll miss Katherine. "I sleep more and I go to yoga more and so I think she had to go eventually and I'm glad that she went in the most epic way possible...being sucked into hell. So it was cool. If you're going to close on a character like that, that was the way to do it. I think we did her justice and I'm happy about that, but it will be sad because that character is fun to play."

Back to the Delena sexytimes, which you can get a taste of in the preview above, executive producer Julie Plec previewed what's ahead for the couple during the panel.

"They've got to have a lot of actual, legit, grown-up conversations," she said. "We just want to try to play them as human as possible, in spite of their inhuman experience."  However, that may prove to be difficult, as Somerhalder teased, "They keep taking their pants off, and that's what gets in the way of the grown-up conversations."

What else can we expect? Some Enzo (Michael Malarkey) goodness, quippy Damon one-liners and the return of a few (currently dead) fan favorites. Who's coming back? Watch the exclusive preview above to find out!

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
