When it comes to body art, Lily Collins believes in the 'no pain, no gain' philosophy.
"Look, women go through worse things," she shares in the April 2014 issue of Lucky magazine. "Waxing hurts more than tattoos. And tattoos are permanent, so if it takes a little pain to get there, that's okay."
Her love of tattoos is just one part of her rather daring side—something that is starting to reflect in her style choices. "I love pushing the boundaries with fashion," she says. "I'm feeling a little bit edgier and sexier."
Take, for example, the white Cushnie Et Ochs dress she wore to the L.A. premiere of The Mortal Instruments. "It had slashes all the way up to the bustline! We had to tape my parts perfectly." Or what about the itty bitty Houghton number she wore to the Madrid premiere? "You could roll it up into a ball—that's how little a dress it was! I had to be so strategically placed. One wrong move would have been a paparazzi's dream."
The 25-year-old also likes to take risks with her makeup, but only on the red carpet. "I like to save the dramatic moments for events or photo shoots," explains the star, who is currently the face of Lancôme. "I've always been a big fan of ‘less is more'—the idea that you can accept a little help to accentuate what you already have and bring out that extra sparkle."
So what's her routine? A dab of Bienfait sunscreen, a swipe of Hypnôse Drama mascara, a little highlighter under her brows and adding a Lip Lover shade to suit her mood—and that takes less than 10 minutes. "I like doing it fast," she says. "The more you have on your face the more there is to go wrong."
And while Lily is currently discovering a new side of fashion and beauty, the fame game itself is old hat. Growing up the daughter of Phil Collins meant that Elton John was just one of the A-listers that was a frequent guest at her home. "I never understood the word ‘celebrity,' " she confesses. "It was just part of my everyday."
That's not to say she is in anyway jaded. In fact, during the interview the star gushes about the 2013 Met Ball: "Being invited to something like that? Incredible! I still think, Why am I on the list? I still feel like a little girl dressing up and getting to go to a pretty party."
