What does a young woman who enjoys the occasional vagina sunbath look for in a boyfriend?
Shailene Woodley may currently be the poster child for, not just futuristic-warrior power in Divergent, but also for stylish, pixie-cut girl power in real life. But it turns out that doesn't mean she necessarily feels the need to call all the shots in a relationship.
Discussing her feminist tendencies (and she, unlike some, seems to really get what that means), the 22-year-old actress told E! News last night at the L.A. premiere of Divergent that, sure, she loves women, but...
"I love males too, though, I do!" she insisted. "I like to be a feminist, but I'm also a…maleist? What would you call that?"
Probably just normal. (But we're happy to start using maleist, too!)
"I'm a strong woman who loves men," Woodley continued. Asked what she looks for in a guy, she replied, simply, "You gotta let a man be a man, right? And let a woman be a woman."
And the former Secret Life of the American Teenager star is shaping up to be quite her own woman, even though she's still in that stage where she's fielding comparisons to her peers, such as plucky onscreen heroines like Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart.
"It's totally flattering just to be compared to characters like that," Woodley also told E! on the red carpet last night. "Also, I don't personally know Kristen or Jen but they both seem like strong, confident women and so I'll take a comparison. That's a compliment, right?"
