Girl Meets World, Disney Channel's highly anticipated original comedy series, is set to welcome three familiar Boy Meets World faces when it premieres this summer: Rider Strong, Betsey Randle and William Russ are all set to appear in an episode, E! News has confirmed.
Strong will reprise his role as Shawn, Cory's (Ben Savage) troubled BFF, while Randle and Russ will once again play Amy and Alan Matthews, Cory's parents aka one of TV's best parenting duos ever. So why are they all visiting Cory and Topanga, who are now married with a tween daughter? We can only say that they are returning for a holiday episode.
Danielle Fishel (Topanga!) tweeted the first look at the gang back together, sitting around a dinner table, with the caption, "Happy to have these familiar faces on set with us this week!"
Last June, E! News chatted with Strong about possibly reprising his fan favorite role and what Shawn might be up to these days.
"We've talked about it a little bit. I think he's got to be in trouble of some kind and he's got to pull Cory into trouble. That's definitely the way it's going to be because that's always how it went," Strong told us. "I'd like to see him happier. I feel like Shawn was destined for tragedy. I mean, gosh, they killed my father, my mother abandoned me, my girlfriend and I broke up at the end of the show. They really just made Shawn's life hell. It would be good if he's in trouble but in general is happy."
Strong, Russ and Randle aren't the only Boy Meets World alums who will pop up on the new series as William Daniels is set to appear in the pilot as Mr. Feeny, while we exclusively reported that Lee Norris will reprise his role as Minkus in an episode of Girl Meets World.
"I've had a great time being back on set with some of my old friends," Norris said in a statement exclusively to E! News. "It still amazes me how many people love and remember Minkus, and I'm excited for the fans to catch up with him after all these years."
Set in New York City, Girl Meets World centers on Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Cory and Topanga's curious and bright tween daughter, and her quick-witted friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter), aka the Shawn to her Cory, as they begin their unforgettable middle school journey. However, their plans for a carefree year might have to be adjusted as they are under the watchful eye of Topanga and Cory, who is now a middle school history teacher.
Girl Meets World premieres this summer on the Disney Channel.
