After the SXSW Crash Put Her in the Hospital, This Girl Got a Private Concert From Her Favorite Band

SXSW, Twitter Twitter

There's a happy ending for at least one girl involved in this very sad story: A suspected drunk driver crashed into a crowd of people at this year's South by Southwest festival, killing two and injuring 23 others. One of those injured was 18-year-old Mason Endres.

"We were waiting for Mason's dad to pick us up and all of a sudden, this car comes around the corner at 60 miles per hour. We couldn't move before it just, plowed us down," Mason's friend Grace Neill recalls in the YouTube video below.

"I was facing her and so, as I was getting hit, I watched my best friend just get hit like a bowling pin," Grace continues. Mason doesn't remember anything from the accident, which may be because she suffered a concussion. She also broke one leg, severed an artery in the other, fractured her spine and broke her nose.

She was taken to St. David's Medical Center, where she has been recovering.

Because of the accident, Mason missed indie folk band Jared & The Mill's show. They're her favorite band and she's become friends with them through social media. "@masonendres PPLLLEEAAAASSSEEE tell me you're ok right now," the band tweeted after the accident.

So when they found out what happened to her, the set about making it right.

"Mason was one of our first friends and fans in Austin," singer Jared Kolesar explained. "She's always been very supportive and brought her friends out to our shows here...So we decided to come play at the hospital since she wasn't able to come to our show last night."

Watch the very moving performance:

"I felt so great today. Just the pure excitement of everything has gotten me through today," Mason said after the show. "I felt better than I ever imagined I would feel in a hospital."
