Theo James' preppy look is a far cry from his trademark Dauntless black attire.

The Divergent star appears in the latest issue of GQ, modeling several ensembles in picturesque Nantucket. No surprise here, he is predictably perfect in the colorful and chic ensembles.

The 29-year-old reveals to the magazine that at first he was hesitant to sign on to appear in movie franchise, even though he enjoyed reading fantasy series as a child.

"I probably pretended I was reading, like, Sartre or something, but it was all Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings," James says.

Besides starring on the short-lived CBS series Golden Boy and an unforgettable cameo in Downton Abbey—in case you forgot, he died having sex with Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery)—James' role as Four in Veronica Roth's young adult trilogy will give American audience's their first real look at the hunky English actor. And the thesp is doing some serious stunts in the action-adventure flick.

"That was kind of the fun stuff in a way," James said during an appearance on Today on Wednesday. "You kind of, get involved in it. If you don't kind of finish a day with stunts with lots of bruises, you feel like you haven't done it right."

James also dished that he and co-star Shailene Woodley, signed on to star in the films before the third book was written.

"Anything could have happened, we could have become clowns," James joked.

"Or dolphins!" Woodley quipped.

"You have to love the character, because if you don't love it, then potentially, it's a big part of your life," James added. "But there's a lot to be drawn on these characters. A lot of meat on the bones."

Divergent hits theaters on March 21.
