And by "adorable athletes," we mean the dogs. Not the humans. Although we're confident that the men and women racing in the Iditarod are plenty attractive. We like the grizzled look, don't you?
But anyway, the annual Iditarod race started last Saturday, which means we'll be obsessing over the photos of adorable sled dogs for the next two weeks!
It also means men and women battling the forces of nature in Alaska, which is also impressive. But mostly we only care about staring at photos of beautiful dogs racing through the snow. And look! They have cute (and necessary) little boots on their feet!
If you head over to the website, you can pick a favorite racer and track their progress through the Iditarod with a GPS. So pick the dogs with the best names because they almost always win. Usually. Sometimes.
But enough of all that, let's get to the cute pics!
This is Sue Ellis, wife of musher Mike Ellis, hugging her dog Frankie before he begins his race. Look how excited and pumped he is for the competition!
Red boots and red bandannas? Too cute. Way to go, Canada!
Look at those eyes! That dog is so focused, so intent on winning. It's beautiful. And also a little derpy.
We can't stop giggling at those tongues flapping freely in the wind.
And finally, this is Bonnet. He's a sled dog of former Iditarod champion Jeff King. But most importantly…he's the cutest dog in a box ever.
Good luck to all the insanely adorable athletes! And to the humans, of course.
