Sparkly metallics, deep reds and classic neutrals were just a few of the shades stars slathered on their nails for awards season.

At the Golden Globes, deep dark reds and neutrals were the rage; Metallic, bronze, and barely-there nails dominated the SAG Awards; Celebs got playful at the Grammys with sparkly metallic tones and nail art; and nail hues were toned down at the Oscars, with classic reds and neutrals the popular looks of the evening.

To get the scoop on this awards season's hottest nail trends, we chatted with Sally Hansen nail ambassador Tracylee, who also gave us the lowdown on how to get red carpet nails at home.

Check out her five steps on how to create a "border mani!"

1. Apply Sally Hansen's Pat on the Black Nail Polish: Put on one thin coat and let it dry.

2. Apply Red My Lips Polish: Start a centimeter from the cuticle and polish straight down the middle of the nail, leaving a small line of Pat on the Black around the cuticle and on the sides of the nails to create your border.

3. Apply a Second Coat of Red My Lips: The rounded tip on the polish brush helps keep the polish line clean, Traylee said.

4. Apply Wedding Glitters polish. You will also use a dotting tool to make gold dots around the border of your nails. Start in the center to make the polka dots even, and make sure they're large.

5. For a Finishing Touch, Add a Layer of Top Coat:  It will blend all of the layers together to give it a nice smooth finish.
