Kerry Washington and Michelle Obama have known each other for years, but that doesn't mean the TV star felt comfortable asking the First Lady of the United States if she's ever seen an episode Scandal. Imagine the actress' surprise when Obama revealed that she binge watched the entire ABC series during a trip to Hawaii. "I had never watched it," FLOTUS said during a January On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio interview. "I love Kerry Washington. She is amazing, so it makes the show fun."
"I do a lot of work at the White House and I never wanted to say, 'Hey do you watch my show?' while we are out there doing work in schools, so I've never asked her," said Washington, who will give birth to her first child later this spring. "So it was really fun to hear she watches the show and enjoys it."
Washington was quick to point out that what goes down in the White House on Scandal does not go down in the current White House. "There are White Houses that I think could identify with some of our story lines, but our current White House, not so much," said the star, whose character, Olivia Pope, is having an affair with the President of the United States, Fitzgerald Grant III, played by Tony Goldwyn.
Per usual, the pregnant actress was tight-lipped about the future of the show. "It just keeps getting better and better," Washington teased of the remaining episodes in Season 3. "It's kind of nuts."
Washington, who has been nominated for multiple awards for her work on Scandal, promised that viewers will be on the edges of their seats over the next few weeks. "There are things that happen in the next couple of episodes that had the entire room at our table read crying—things that had us applauding and screaming and laughing," she said. "I mean, we are shocked at every table read."
