The Oscar nominee also loves showing off her manicures.
"My mother wouldn't let me paint my nails until I was 12," Nyong'o told me last night at the premiere of her new action thriller, Non-Stop (in theaters on Feb. 28). "So when I was finally able to do it, I did it every day."
And she's been doing it all awards season. Nyong'o, who is up for best supporting actress for her work in 12 Years a Slave, has rightly become quite the fashion star.
She says she has "quite a few dresses" in her hotel room right now. "I'm really enjoying playing dress up and having things to dress up for," she smiled.
Nyong'o stunned last night in a bronze Lanvin dress with a black zipper down the front. Her shoes were Sergio Rossi and the purse was by Rauwolf. She accessorized with a Solange Azagury-Patridge ring and Janis Savitt earrings.
Her eyes glowed with glittery electric blue makeup. Her makeup artist, Nyong'o said, "used my face like a canvas. I like it."
Nyong'o, no surprise, isn't spilling any details on her Oscar dress, but did you know that her birthday is on Saturday?
"The awards, that's going to be my birthday present," she said of the weekend, which also inlcudes the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday.
She added, "I'm definitely going to remember this one."
Perhaps Ellen DeGeneres could lead the Oscar audience to sing her "Happy Birthday"?
"Oh, my goodness," Nyong'o said. "That would be too much pressure."
Sure, but it would be so much fun, too!
