Bill Murray Remembers Harold Ramis: "He Earned His Keep on This Planet"

Ramis, who costarred with and directed Murray in a number of films, died at the age of 69 Monday

Bill Murray eagerly took part in most of Harold Ramis' plans—even when they involved crossing the streams.

Murray, who collaborated with the actor and filmmaker on some of the funniest movies of all time, joined the rest of Hollywood and many, many fans in mourning Ramis following his death today. Ramis was 69 and had been suffering from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis for several years.

"Harold Ramis and I together did the National Lampoon Show together off Broadway, Meatballs, Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day," Murray said in a statement obtained by Time magazine. "He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him."

That list of films and stage work may read like just a list, but each title boasted a treasure trove of comedic gold.

Dan Akroyd, who cowrote and starred in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 (the 1989 sequel was widely panned, but it's got plenty of LOL moments upon repeat viewings), wrote on Facebook earlier today: "Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my brilliant, gifted and funny friend, co-writer/performer and teacher Harold Ramis. May he now get the answers he was always seeking."

And these two comedy legends have hardly been alone in their appreciations.

"Thank you, we love you," tweeted Judd Apatow, who directed Ramis in Knocked Up and produced Ramis' final directorial effort, Year One.
