Ryan Seacrest may have a number of producer credits under his belt, but the Hollywood vet was seriously schooled when he recently attempted to promote his new show Mixology.
"Hello gorgeous, listen, we've been brainstorming marketing ideas and we've got a great one for the show and as you know, you're our favorite producer," Andrew Santino, who plays Bruce on the upcoming ABC comedy, tells Seacrest in a new promo clip before costars Blake Lee and Craig Frank inform the Idol host that their secret to success is "the giant arrow."
"How Not to Promote a TV Show," indeed.
The clip then cuts to Seacrest, Lee, Frank and Santino standing out on the street as Seacrest frantically waves the giant arrow with words "Mixology Wednesday 9:30 p.m. ABC."
Unfortunately, he's not too successfully at grabbing attention from fellow onlookers and instead nearly gets hit by a bus as the Mixology castmembers exclaim, "You're doing it all wrong!"
"Are you sure this is really the best way to market the show?" an exasperated Seacrest asks. "Is there any other TV show that markets like this?"
"Uh, Modern Family," the trio answers in unison as the camera cuts to a man on the street doing flips and tricks with his own giant promotional arrow.
But since Modern Family supposedly has the monopoly on the whole giant-arrow concept, they decide to take a different route—this time, passing out fliers around the neighborhood (in some obscure locations) while dishing out dating advice.
"We're looking for love and friendship and sex, and that's what we're all going out for right?" Santino asks an elderly couple who hilariously reply, "Used to!"
The funny trio also ask fans for their favorite movie or TV show and—no matter what the response, whether it be Girls or Jurassic Park—they reply, "That's just like our show!"
So what can we actually expect to see when Mixology premieres?
The show centers on 10 single people, five girls and five guys, who are all in search of love at Mix, a high-end bar in Manhattan's trendy meat-packing district.
Hilarity is sure to ensue after Tom (played by Blake Lee) hits the town for the first time in over a decade with his buddies Cal (Frank) and Bruce (Santino) who throw their pal back into the dating pool after he is dumped by his fiancée. And after Tom's first encounter with a beautiful yet brutal attorney (Ginger Gonzaga) leaves him in tears, things only take a turn for the worse.
Mixology, also starring Adam Campbell, Adan Canto, Alexis Carra, Vanessa Lengies, Frankie Shaw and Kate Simses, premieres Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
