It's hard to believe that Forrest Gump will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. And the actor who played the film's titular character, Tom Hanks, shared a sweet photo with his costars to remind us all that "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get."

"Hadn't seen these old friends for too long. Hanx," the 57-year-old thespian captioned the sweet snapshot on Thursday on his WhoSay account.

Hanks, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of the memorable character, posed with Gary Sinise and Mykelti Williamson.

The trio reunited for Gary Sinise's Foundation at a multi-day event "Hollywood Salutes Heroes," which was dedicated to giving thanks to those who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Williamson memorably portrayed Forrest's friend from the army, Bubba Blue, while Sinise was Lieutenant Dan Taylor, their platoon leader in Vietnam.

Too bad Mrs. Gump (Sally Field) and childhood sweetheart Jenny (Robin Wright) are not in this photograph.

The Robert Zemeckis film won six Oscars in 1995, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Sinise was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Hanks recently revealed during a Q&A on Reddit that he sometimes gets emotional when he watches a particular scene from the 1994 romantic comedy-drama.

When asked whether certain performances from his career tug at his heart, Hanks replied, "When LT. Dan introduced Forrest to his wife, with his titanium legs, I burst into tears..."
