Taylor Swift isn't afraid to get real.
A fact which the 24-year-old country crooner has proven true time and time again in her telling song lyrics that spill the stories of her deepest secrets, from her biggest heartbreaks (hi, Harry Styles) to her hopes for the future.
And the seven-time Grammy winner opens up even more in the March 2014 issue of Glamour magazine, looking stunning on the cover in a lacy coral dress as she gives the camera a sly smirk, while dishing on her much-buzzed about dating life and being a role model in the pop music world.
First off, don't expect T.Swift to strip down at her show anytime soon like many young stars today.
"I find it relatively easy to keep my clothes on because I don't really feel like taking them off," she said. "It's not an urge I have. For me 'risky' is revealing what really happened in my life through music. Risky is writing confessional songs and telling the true story about a person with enough details so everyone knows who that person is. That's putting myself out there, maybe even more than taking my shirt off."
Fair enough. But what about the backlash she receives from the press after she puts out a song she seemingly penned about an ex (hello, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together")?
"I know when not to read an article," the songbird admitted. "Is it going to help my day? Is it important for my life? If the answer is no, then I just don't click."
"I'm careful about getting sucked into the rabbit hole that is the Internet because, as a songwriter, I don't have the option of having thick skin," she continued. "As a writer you have to be open to everything, and that includes pain, rejection, self-doubt, fear. I deal with that enough on my own. If you look hard enough, you could find somebody on the Internet criticizing every single thing about you. If you're me."
Considering the Internet isn't too kind when it comes to Ms. Swift, that's probably a good idea (case in point: the viral GIFs after the performer thought she won Album of the Year at the 2014 Grammy Awards).
But nothing is more scrutinized in the media than T.Swift's love life, due to her string of highly publicized romances with Harry Styles, Joe Jonas, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer and Conor Kennedy, to name a few.
And although she sings about heartbreak in many of her hit tunes, it turns out the leggy blonde may know how to play games with the best.
"I think everyone should approach relationships from the perspective of playing it straight and giving someone the benefit of the doubt," she said of dating. "Until he establishes that this is a game. And if it's a game, you need to win. The best thing to do is just walk away from the table."
And most importantly? Never yell in a relationship.
"Silence speaks so much louder than screaming tantrums," she explained. "Never give anyone an excuse to say that you're crazy."
