When we hear Thor, many of us automatically picture Chris Hemsworth.

The Aussie hunk has taken on the role of the God of Thunder on the big screen, but you might remember that Tom Hiddleston, who plays Thor's formidable foe and sibling rival Loki, actually auditioned for the main role.

And now, we can get a sneak peek of that audition tape, thanks to Yahoo! Movies.

So what do we see? Well, Tom covers his signature red locks for a long blond wig, ditches his shirt to reveal his toned bod and thrusts a hammer into the air like nobody's business to prove that he's worthy of wielding the mighty hammer, Mjolnir.

Alas, as executive producer Craig Kyle says in the video, "He did a tremendous job, but he wasn't Thor." But it all worked out, because Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki is beyond perfection in the Marvel flicks.

(P.S. You can watch more of the actor's audition tape for the role of Thor from the special features of the upcoming Thor: The Dark World DVD/Blu-ray.)

"I did less running and more lifting of things for awhile," the 32-year-old actor told Chelsea Handler of his audition to play Thor. "I auditioned and I swung the hammer, but they were always looking for Loki as well, and I think the closer I got, they were like, 'You should play the bad guy.'"

Thor: The Dark World will be available on Digital HD on Feb. 2, and Blu-ray/DVD on Feb. 25.
