The Grammys just wouldn't be the same without a few major fashion misses

When it comes to the Grammys, here's the unofficial fashion rule: Leave your demure Carolina Herrera gown hanging in the closet, and bust out your flashiest, glitziest, most skin-baring getup.

And while sometimes an over-the-top fashion risk really works, other times? We're left cringing.

And this year there were definitely a few fashion question marks on the 2014 red carpet.

Let's start with Kathy Griffin, who always makes us laugh, but even still—we weren't  huge fans of her printed teal dress that seemed more suited for a poolside party in Miami. It works as a beach coverup, but not as a Grammys dress.

And then there was Paula Patton, who is never one to shy away from risks. But we were slightly confused by her zebra-printed number, featuring a two-headed animal dueling it out over her cleavage at the neckline.

And we give Chrisette Michele props for thinking outside the box with a printed pantsuit, but unfortunately the whole look just didn't pan out.

But it's not all bad. We give all these celebs credit for taking a chance. Plus, it gives us all something to talk about at work on Monday.
