Leah Messer recently learned the reason behind her daughter Aliannah's developmental delays.

In an interview with InTouch, the Teen Mom 2 star reveals that her four-year-old child has a rare and incurable form of muscular dystrophy.

"We were scared because we didn't know what her future was going to look like, but we always pushed for answers," Messer told the magazine. "We never gave up, and we never will. We'll do everything we can to make sure Ali has the life that she needs."

Messer sadly added, "The disorder affects her respiratory system and progresses the older she gets. The bigger she gets and the more weight she gains, the harder it'll be for her muscles to carry the weight."

Despite the fact that Aliannah is able to walk right now, Messer noted that she will eventually have to use a wheelchair.

The new season of Teen Mom 2, which premiered on Tuesday on MTV, will focus on Aliannah's diagnosis.

Aliannah and her twin sister Aleeah are Messer's children from her marriage to Corey Simms, whom she divorced in 2011.

She and husband Jeremy Calvert welcomed daughter Addalynn last February.
