Spoiler Warning: We're about to discuss a major plot twist that went down on The Originals' Tuesday night episode. if you've yet to watch, look away!
Like mothershow, like spinoff!
Taking a page from The Vampire Diaries, the CW's breakout hit The Originals said goodbye to its first major character on Tuesday night, shocking fans by killing Davina (Danielle Campbell). (We hate you but we love you, Julie Plec!)
Unable to control all of the powers inside of her, Davina finally agreed to complete the Harvest, letting Sophie (Danielle Pineda) sacrifice her as Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Rebekah (Claire Holt), Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and a devastated Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) looked on. Unfortunately, the Harvest didn't work, meaning Davina, and the three other sacrificed teen witches, are dead-dead. (Turns out, Sabine [Shannon Kane] is actually Celeste, Elijah's thought-to-be-long-dead witchy ex, who wanted all of the power that's been chillin' inside Davina for herself.)
So how did Danielle Campbell, 18, find out she was going to be The Originals' first major death? Well, it's kind of a funny story.
"The day that that script had come out, I had a lot of dialogue that day. So I wasn't going to read the script until I got home that night. All day, everyone was coming up to me and my friends, people on the crew, were coming to my trailer like, ‘Have you read the script yet?'" Campbell tells E! News. "I was like, ‘No, what happens? I'm so excited, tell me!' And they were just like, ‘Oh, you should probably read it.' And then someone else would come up to me, they were like, ‘Did you read the script? Are you good?' I was like, ‘Am I good about what? What happens? Tell me! I'm so excited.'"
And in a devious move (Klaus would definitely approve!), Campbell reveals she tricked someone into telling her what happened. "I was genuinely excited to hear about what was going to happen. And finally, I go up to one of my friends on the crew and I'm like, ‘They just told me what happens, I can't believe it.' He goes, ‘Yeah, I can't believe that you die!' And I was like, ‘What?!' I was like cracking up. And they were like, ‘Oh, I'm sure they are going to bring you back,' and I was like, ‘Oh, I don't know. That's so freaky!' [Laughs.] So that's how I found out, it was very funny."
And while hearing you've been killed off of your show from one of your coworkers may not seem ideal, Campbell admits, "I wouldn't wanted to just read it at home and been like, ‘That's great.'"
As for what's next for our supernatural gang, Campbell teases Marcel, Klaus, Rebekah and the others will be looking for ways to bring Davina and the other young sacrificed witches back from the dead.
"After the Harvest and Davina dies, a lot of twists go around as to why the Harvest girls didn't come back," she spills. "There's going to be a lot of trauma and the episodes continue to get more intense and everyone wants these girls to come back, but at the same time, there's going to be a lot of things preventing it from happening."
And don't think that just because Davina died that The Originals will hold back from making any more big kills, as Campbell had just two words for us when we asked if another death was coming this season.
"Yes. Absolutely." Anyone else just get chills? (And yes, we are already prepping our prayer circles.)
At just 18, Campbell is the series' youngest star, and she says her cast members have definitely become like older brothers and sisters.
"I'm the baby on set, so I get advice on every single level. All the boys are totally like big brothers and they've told me I can't date certain people. [Laughs.] They're so great," she gushes. "All the girls are just the sweetest things ever. Phoebe gives me some of her old clothes that she doesn't like. I feel like I couldn't have more a family here on set."
And while Campbell's lips were sealed about Davina possibly returning from the grave, she has been tweeting from set. So fingers crossed NoLa's most powerful (and badass) teen witch will be resurrected. Stranger things have happened, just ask The Vampire Diaries' gang.
