Ranking the Best and Worst Pop Star Siblings (Including Lorde's Little Sister, Who Is Also a Singer)

Hey, Lorde's little sister is a singer too. Who knew?

The "Royals" singer's 15-year-old sister, Indy Yelich-O'Connor, recently tweeted out a cover of the song "Say Something," by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. Let's hope that Lorde and Indy are on good terms, because we know Lorde is not afraid to give a harsh review of her fellow musicians and calling a family member, we don't know, "completely irrelevant" or "f-cking bullsh-t" might make things a little awwwkkkwwward at dinner.

Not that the cover is deserving of a diss. It's nice! But how does it stack up against the musical careers (or attempts at musical careers) of other pop star siblings? Below, we rank the best and worst:

NEWS: Don't call Lorde a "teen hottie" or she might literally throw up on you!

    9. Ali Lohan

    Pop Star Sibling: Lindsay Lohan

    Career Highlight:

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh. Ali released a Christmas album in 2006 called Lohan Holiday that featured Dina Lohan on two songs (TWO SONGS FEATURING DINA LOHAN). Two years later, she tried again with a single "All the Way Around." Eventually, she realized modeling was better suited for her musical abilities.

    8. Haylie Duff

    Pop Star Sibling: Hilary Duff

    Career Highlight:

Haylie's musical career has mostly been a piggyback ride on Hilary's musical career. Which is why her most popular songs are not solo projects ("Our Lips Are Sealed" and "Material Girl," both with Hilary). And any success she's had in cowriting music has been for—uh oh—Hilary!

    7. Indy Yelich-O'Connor

    Pop Star Sibling: Lorde

Career Highlight: She's only released the one track (see: above) and says she wants to be a writer and that the cover was "something for a little bit of fun." But she has a unique voice, like her sister, so we wouldn't be surprised if all this attention inspired her to release some more music. And we'd probably listen to it, too.

    5. Brandi Cyrus

    Pop Star Sibling: Miley Cyrus

    Career Highlight:

Brandi is Miley's half-sister (from Tish Cyrus's previous marriage) and describes herself as a "songwriter, musician, blogger, designer, competitive equestrian." Surprisingly, she doesn't list red carpet correspondent (that's what she's known for these days), but she's also one half of the duo Frank + Derol and their music isn't half bad. Maybe she should put the music stuff as her first priority.

    5. Hudson

    Pop Star Sibling: Katy Perry

    Career Highlight:

Katy Perry Katherine Hudson's brother also goes by a different name professionally (dropping his first name, David, and going by Hudson only). No matter what you might think of Katy and her whipped cream bras and purple wigs and whatnot, you have to admit that girl can sing. Her brother got some pipes too, though he does more of the alt.rock thing. Which works for him.

    4. Jamie Lynn Spears

    Pop Star Sibling: Britney Spears

    Career Highlight:

Little Jamie Lynn is grown up and following in her sister's footsteps. But while Jamie Lynn still dabbles in pop (most notably on a duet with Britney called "Chillin' With You"), she's distancing herself from her sister and taking the country route with her solo work. Which is the best decision she could make. And "How Could I Want More," her debut single, is simple, sweet and delightfully listenable.

    3. Dannii Minogue

    Pop Star Sibling: Kylie Minogue

    Career Highlight:

Dannii may not have left as big of a mark on the music industry as her older sister, but she has certainly left her mark. Not only in terms of dance-friendly club bops, but she's also had career success doing judging stints on music variety shows (on Australia's Got Talent then The X Factor UK and recently, The X Factor Australia).

    2. Ashlee Simpson

Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson Michael Caulfield/WireImage.com

    Pop Star Sibling: Jessica Simpson

    Career Highlight:

That damned Saturday Night Live hoedown scandal left a dark mark on Ashlee's music career, which, over the years, has taken away from the fact that she's had some really fun music: "Pieces of Me." "La La." "Boyfriend." Yeah, our inner-emo, rocker girl could get down to that. More in that vein, please, Ashlee (we didn't love her newest song, "Bat for a Heart").

    1. Solange

Beyonce Knowles, Solange Knowles JUSTIN CAMPBELL/startraksphoto.com

    Pop Star Sibling: Beyoncé

    Career Highlight:

Miss Tina Knowles delivers again. And that is one deep gene pool of talent. It's no surprise that when your sister is as flawless (or, ***Flawless) as Queen Bey, you have a lot going on yourself. And Solange was smart enough to move past her pop phase and create music and fashion and videos that were different than B's.

    Different, but still flawless.
