Sasheer Zamata made her highly anticipated debut on Saturday Night Live and was featured prominently throughout the show.
The 27-year-old comedian, who is the first female black cast member since Maya Rudolph left the sketch comedy show in 200, appeared in several sketches alongside host and musical guest Drake on Jan. 18.
During the opening monologue, Drake reflected about his Bar Mitzvah and focused on his multi-cultural roots—his mother is Jewish and his father is African American.
Cue the flashback sequence: Drake (at the time Aubrey Graham) as an adorable 13-year-old boy becoming a man, Jay Pharoah and Vanessa Bayer as his parents, Kenan Thompson as his uncle and Zamata as his aunt.
"Mazel Tov!" Zamata proudly declared before Drake performed a hilarious Bar Mitzvah rap.
Zamata showed off her best Rihanna impersonation, and suggestive dance moves, in a sketch centered around Drake's role on the Canadian soap Degrassi: The Next Generation and musicians getting their big breaks on classic TV shows before the roles were re-cast. Thompson, as MTV VJ Sway, served as the host for "Hip Hop Classics: Before They Were Stars" and revealed the Barbados native actually starred in the original version of Blossom, Eminem (Taran Killam) was on Felicity and Lil Wayne (Drake), high pants and all, turned out to be Steve Urkle.
Zamata sang the chorus for a music video featuring a group of guys making New Years resolutions. The highlights included Killam cutting out unhealthy foods so that he can one day have Ian Somerhalder's fit bod, Drake quitting drinking and Pharoah saying goodbye to sex toys.
