The Office's Mindy Kaling and Rainn Wilson, who played fan favorites Kelly and Dwight on the beloved sitcom, had a mini-reunion at Fox's 2014 All-Star party at the Winter TCA Press Tour. (Kaling even posted a photo of the duo, with Wilson later calling it "haunted & creepy.")
And when E! News chatted with Wilson on the red carpet, he was quick to defend The Mindy Project creator and star's recent Elle magazine cover, which faced instant scrutiny.
"I think it's silly," Wilson said of the controversy. "I think she looked great and she looked beautiful and it was great cover. They're doing women of comedy, they're going to mix it up a little bit."
And Wilson revealed he can totally relate to Kaling, thanks to a bad experience at a photo shoot of his own.
"I remember I did a photo shoot once for some dumb GQ thing and they saw my paunch and they quickly pulled me out of a suit and put a sweater on me," Wilson joked.
Wilson was at the party to promote Backstrom, his new project that was recently picked up by Fox after CBS passed on its last season, which features Wilson in a hate-to-love him role.
"He's truly despicable. He's really mean. And racist. And he hates women. And he hates himself," Wilson says of his character on Bones creator Hart Hanson's new crime drama. "But he's really good at solving crimes and that's a lot of fun to play. He kind of says the first thing that's on his mind, he doesn't self-edit. It's very liberating."
But the real question is, could Backstrom take The Office's Dwight Schrute, a black belt, in a fight?
"Dwight would demolish him. Dwight would rip him apart, but Backstrom would eviscerate him emotionally. Insult him in really clever ways, but it doesn't matter; Dwight would kill him."
