Getty ImagesWhile she may now live the majority of her life out of the spotlight, there's no doubt Julia Roberts is still one of the biggest—and most successful—movie stars.
With a smile that lights up every room and a clear dedication to her craft, the 46-year-old actress quickly climbed the A-list ladder after bursting on to the big screen and earning her first Golden Globe for Steel Magnolias before later becoming a bona fide star after headlining the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman.
Her role as the beautiful prostitute Vivian Ward earned the actress her first Academy Award nomination and officially cemented the brunette beauty's A-list status.
Next up came films such as Flatliners, Hook, Dying Young, Sleeping With the Enemy and The Player, before 1993's The Pelican Brief.
"I went to law school and sort of familiarized myself with that environment," the actress told E! News at the premiere for the crime drama, wearing her hair in a tight low bun with a simple black dress.
Roberts also made headlines for her role in the 1997 film My Best Friend's Wedding, telling E! News at the premiere that her character in the flick is very different from her true persona.
"She's very different from me in the way that I actually become rather composed in a crisis, whereas she falls apart," she said while rocking a short brunette bob.
The following year she starred in Stepmom before coupling up onscreen with Hugh Grant in the Roger Michell-directed romantic comedy Notting Hill, for which she was also nominated for a Golden Globe.
"It was just a great piece, you know, this character...so it was the piece as a whole that really captivated my attention," she told E! News at the premiere.
That same year she reunited with her Pretty Woman costar Richard Gere for 1999's Runaway Bride. "To have so much of the cast that was in Pretty Woman come in and participate, it was great fun," a blond Roberts said with then-boyfriend Benjamin Bratt by her side.
2000 was a milestone year for Roberts as she earned her first Oscar for her role in Erin Brockovich, taking awards season by storm.
But there was no slowing down for the superstar, who continued on to star in 2001's The Mexican, alongside Brad Pitt, as well as Ocean's Eleven with pal George Clooney.
"We're a couple of imbeciles, living out the American dream is what we're doing," the blond beauty joked at the premiere.
She went on to star in a number of films, including 2003's Mona Lisa Smile, 2007's Charlie Wilson's War, 2009's Fireflies in the Garden, 2010's Eat Pray Love, 2011's Larry Crowne and 2012's Mirror Mirror, among others.
And while Roberts has certainly scalled back on her career in order to focus on her family—she has three children, Hazel, Phinnaeus and Henry with husband Danny Moder—the actress can still kill it on the big screen, as proven by her latest role in August: Osage County, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.
"Well that's kind of a family's responsibility, to push you to your limits in good ways and challenging ways and you know, it is what it is," she said at the flick's premiere.
