Hoda Kotb wants to "Shine a Light" on children fighting cancer, and what better way to do that by letting them be the stars of a music video?!

On Thursday, Jan. 9, the Today cohost revealed that in 2014 she wants "to make a huge incredible music video" with kids fighting the disease, set to "a song that's an anthem about being brave and being strong."

Hoda, a breast cancer survivor herself, said that while she knows "what it feels like as a grownup" to be sick, she "can't even fathom, even now, is what it feels like to be a kid struggling with this grown-up disease."

The 49-year-old TV personality pointed out that cancer "is something they shouldn't have to deal with," saying, "All you want to do is reach out and help and hug."

She recalled a 2007 visit to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. "I remember seeing a kid's face and you think when you walk in the door you're going to be sad," she said. "But there's something when you walk in and see these kids, you transform from sadness to joy. "

"I remember thinking 'What's happening?' My heart was breaking and then five minutes later I'm with these kids who are kids," she continued. "These kids who are playing—these kids with parents who are cheering for them."

And it's these kids and their families that have inspired Hoda to make a music video which she hopes "goes across the country form hospital to hospital to hospital."

"You watch these kids and you think to yourself, 'I wanna be there. I wanna be part of that,'" she said. "I think it makes not only the kids feel good and the parents feel good, but us at home watching, too."

Throughout the year, Hoda will help raise funds towards this cause (which you can track on Today's Shine a Light Facebook page). Her cohost Kathie Lee Gifford is also hoping to "Shine a Light" on a good cause, encouraging families to make meaningful memories and putting together a coffee-table book with proceeds donated to the Salvation Army.

(NBC and E! are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
