Idris Elba won his first Golden Globe in 2011 for the miniseries Luther, and the 41-year-old actor is nominated in two categories at this Sunday's show. Prior to the big event, the Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom star stopped by E!'s Chelsea Lately on Tuesday, Jan. 7, to discuss his awards show plans.

"The problem is there's two tables to sit on: there's a Mandela table and there's a Luther table. So, since I already won at the Luther table, I was going to sit at the Mandela table. But if I don't win that, I'm gonna run back to the Luther table and just be like, 'Hey, sorry about that, guys. I got this one.'"

Elba—who's nominated for Best Actor in the Motion Picture Drama and Miniseries or Television Film categories—will be prepared if he does indeed take home another trophy. "I've got to think about a speech, because you play someone like Nelson Mandela, you have to say something really important if you win," the Englishman explained. "So, I've got to think about that.

Later in the interview, host Chelsea Handler reminisced with Elba about their pre-fame days at Caroline's Comedy in New York City.  "Do you remember that? You were the doorman," the comedienne reminded the TV and movie star. "I used to go there and do stand-up all the time. I remember there being a lot of hot black guys there."

"I remember you," Elba said before joking, "You wasn't very funny, though."
