InstagramDwyane Wade is not hiding the fact that he fathered a child during a break with his fiancée, Gabrielle Union.
After a press conference days ago, the 31-year-old athlete confirmed recent reports that he is the proud papa of a new son.
"I had a time, a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy," Wade said of his relationship with the 41-year-old actress. "So I'm moving on."
The Miami Heat player also said that it's important to "always focus on what's most important to me and my family, and that's being a great father. I've always tried to show my importance in my kids' lives and it doesn't change now.
Xavier Zechariah Wade was born on Nov. 10, 2013, at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles.
Little baby Wade arrived just six weeks before the basketball star popped the question to Union.
E! News has exclusively learned that Wade "takes his role as a father very close to his heart" and that "he has spent quite a bit of time with the child."
And while news of the baby shocked fans, it appears that this wasn't a surprise to Wade's leading lady.
"Gabrielle knew about the baby," the insider tells us. "They worked through this prior to the engagement and they're in a really good place. She's been aware of this…they are just happy and planning to move forward and set a wedding date for September."
Wade currently has primary custody of sons Zaire, 11, and Zion, 6, from his previous marriage to Siohvaughn Funches; he is also raising a nephew at his Florida home.
