Over the weekend Katie Holmes debuted a new haircut and darker color. But before she hit the salon for her new ‘do, she took a little trip down mane memory lane.
In an exclusive video for E! News, the Alterna Haircare ambassador and co-owner chats about all of her various hairstyles over the years—and, yes, she even goes all the way back to the Dawson's Creek era.
"I had this look for a long time, this was the look of Joey Potter," she says referring to her character. "Easy, simple, straight-forward, girl-next-door—and it still works!"

Moving on to color, the star explains her ombré look was more of a mistake than a fad:
"I had to dye my hair for a shoot and then I had to dye it back for another shoot and I decided to just let it all grow out so I wouldn't have to keep dyeing it," she shares, adding: "I wouldn't say it's my best look."
So what is one of her best looks? Many would argue it was the chic bob, which she debuted in 2008. "This was a big cut for me, doing a bob," she said. "I'd always wanted to have one and I enjoyed it."
That being said, there are quite a few reasons why long hair is her signature look. "I love doing long and straight hair. It's simple, it's elegant, sophisticated you can wear it with jeans, you can wear it with an evening dress and you feel like your appropriate for any sort of occasion."
