It's official: Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odom are calling it quits.

After a source confirmed to E! News on Friday, Dec. 13 that the 29-year-old E! star planned to file for divorce from her husband of four years "later today," Khloé did indeed decide to move forward with the split, citing "irreconcilable differences" in the divorce papers.

While it's been no secret that the couple has endured their share of marital struggles as of late, it seems that the brunette beauty has finally hit her breaking point.

So why did the Keeping Up the Kardashian's star ultimately decide to divorce Lamar after months of trying to make it work? Here's what we know about Khloé's difficult decision:

"She didn't want to drag this into the new year," a source tells E! News of Khloé's turbulent marriage. "She wants a fresh start. It wasn't any easy decision, but at the end of the day she's not going to stay with someone who refuses to get help."

Khloé has been a key figure in trying to help Lamar end his issues with substance abuse. The former NBA star was arrested for DUI on Aug. 30 and entered rehab shortly after, but checked out after just one day. He later entered a no contest plea for his run-in with the law earlier this week and was sentenced to 36 months of probation.

Just after Lamar's short-lived stint in treatment, sources told E! News "divorce seems imminent" for the duo after Khloe gave her husband an ultimatum, telling him, "if he didn't get help, she'd end the marriage."

And while the troubled pair was continuing couple's therapy last month, it seems that the E! star is still "very, very hurt" by everything that's happened and has decided to kick off 2014 with a new beginning.

As for her family's feelings towards the divorce?

"Kim and the rest of the family fully support her," the source said. "The family is extremely solid, so of course they're behind her."

The source also added the TMZ report claiming that Lamar's leaked rap video was the "last straw" for Khloé is "B.S."

Meanwhile, Odom has been training in Rhode Island with his plan being "to get back and sign up with the [Los Angeles] Clippers," according to a source.

Khloé and Lamar tied the knot on Sept. 27, 2009, at a private Beverly Hills estate after a whirlwind courtship.

We wish both parties all the best.
