The 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and we have some feelings.
Sure, we were delighted by many of the nominations, but we couldn't help but roll our eyes over some of the actors and casts that were left off the ballot.
Of course, there were some very pleasant surprises as well (Hi, Kerry Washington!), so we're running down the five biggest shockers and snubs in the TV categories, from Modern Family's lessened load to the lack of love for Orphan Black's Clone Club...
Surprises
5. While we're still loving the show, we were a bit shocked to see all of the love for Homeland given the backlash season two endured. (That being said, we were also surprised Damian Lewis didn't score a nod along with Claire Danes.)
4. While she recently won her first Emmy, we were nervous Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn would be overlooked come the SAG Awards. We were fools.
3. Usually a nomination hoarder, Modern Family received just two noms, with Ty Burrell as the only castmember to receive individual recognition. (Phil Dunphy, yo!)
2. We're not sure why we were so pleasantly surprised by Scandal's Kerry Washington's well-deserved nom (given that everyone is obsessed with her), but maybe it's because network TV is getting absolutely demolished by cable these days.
1. The biggest surprise of all? That we are still shocked every time we remember SAG doesn't recognize supporting actors. Which means no love for Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul, Homeland's Mandy Patinkin, Nurse Jackie's Merritt Wever, etc. So not cool.
Snubs
5. Once again, Parks and Recreation was brutally rebuffed. We feel like we are taking crazy pills at this point.
4. Is Girls so last season? Lena Dunham's popular HBO dramedy failed to earn a single nom…as if Hannah Horvath needed more #whitegirlproblems to tweet about.
3. Not a single one of Game of Thrones' ladies (Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Natalie Dormer, etc.) earned an individual nod, even though they dominated the HBO hit's fantastic season three. (At least Peter Dinklage scored a nomination, right?)
2. While Jessica Lange was recognized in the Lead Drama Actress category, American Horror Story: Asylum's insanely talented cast, including Sarah Paulson and Zachary Quinto, failed to earn an ensemble nod. (Any way Coven's witches can find a spell to remedy this error?)
1. Seriously, no love for Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany, who effortlessly and brilliantly plays seven(!) different characters?! For shame, SAG committee. For. Freakin'. Shame.
1, Part Two. That's right, we couldn't decide which snub was most offensive, so we picked two of 'em! (We can do whatever we want, it's a free country.) Mad Men, and its leading man John Hamm, were left off the ticket, which is just a crime against good acting. It's the first time the cast has been snubbed in the Best Drama Ensemble category. Dark times, man. Dark times.
