When Lizzy Caplan was cast as Jason Stackhouse's bohemian, V-addicted love interest Amy Burley in Season 1 of HBO's True Blood, she was understandably nervous about her sex scenes with Ryan Kwanten. So the 31-year-old actress did what anyone in her position would do: she got wasted.
"I was hammered for that," Caplan said on the Dec. 10 episode of E!'s Chelsea Lately. "I didn't really have lines the first time. It was like 7:00 in the morning and I was chugging vodka completely naked while a makeup artist I had just met was on her knees in front of me sponging my ass. It's intimate."
Caplan continued, "On True Blood—I've never told anybody this—but I was so nervous and I was so drunk that after I shot the scene I was going up to the crew members—and I had just met all these people the day before—and I was going up to all of them like, 'You got a boner! You do! You've got one!' It was horrible. Horrible!"
Now that she plays a human sexuality researcher opposite Michael Sheen on Showtime's Masters of Sex, Caplan has conquered her fear of stripping down on camera.
"I have sex with a lot of people on the show, and I have to say, if I had a problem with it what right would I have signing up for it?" Caplan said after host Chelsea Handler asked if she's still uncomfortable with nude scenes. "But I get asked that question a lot by pretty much everybody."
