It all came down to the two most passionate TV fanbases around right now: The Vampire Dairies and The Originals.

In the final round it was a super close race to the finish line with only a 2.7 percent difference in vote! So did fans prefer The Originals' baby drama and fight for NOLA power or TVD's Augustine and Silas-infused college episodes? Thousands voted in E! The Originals!

Can you believe it?! After a mere nine episodes, the spinoff has surpassed the flagship series. Sorry Mystic Falls, looks like New Orleans is the new hot place to be for vamps, werewolves and witches!

Julie Plec, the creator and executive producer of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, says she is thrilled that fans have become obsessed with this new twist on a vampire series. "It's a huge validation to the whole team at The Originals who are trying to do right by the mothership of TVD, and tell mini-movies each week." she says. "The show has more adult themes and is driven less by romance and more by power struggles, betrayals, and as Klaus would say 'some dodgy behavior.'"

Plec, an avid voter in all of E! Online's TV tournaments, reveals that she adores both fandoms and is happy that audiences have embraced The Originals with the same love and support that they have for The Vampire Diaries.

"We had no idea if [The Originals] would catch on with the same fervor and intensity as our fandom treats TVD.  In the end, the fandom is all from the same family, so we appreciate their support as always. And yes, I actually did vote for both," she says.

So what can fans expect from their newly-crowned Fall TV Obsession when the vampy drama returns on Jan. 14? Plec dishes, "January and February bring us some big episodes. A big move in the witch community, a life-altering choice made for Davina and an attempt to complete the Harvest." Eeek! We can't wait!
