Here is our journey watching this clip:
The leopard (named Legadema) kills a baboon. Apparently baboons and leopards are enemies and vicious foes in real life. Well, that never happened in The Lion King. So apparently we've been lied to all these years.
That's when the leopard finds a one-day-old baboon baby clinging to its dead mother.
OH MY GOD. THAT IS THE SADDEST THING EVER.
(Spoiler alert: It is not the saddest thing ever, as it is not even the saddest thing in this video.)
We literally did not breathe as the leopard notices the baby baboon. She's going to kill it, isn't she? She's going to kill that little baby monkey and eat it, why are we making ourselves watch this?!
Wait...
OH MY GOD! They're cuddling! IT'S SO CUTE!
The leopard carries the baby baboon into a tree and defends it from descending hyenas (we knew they were a-holes, The Lion King didn't lie about that). It's all so cute...if you can forget the part at the beginning of the video where the leopard was the one who killed the baboon's mom in the first place.
Which we momentarily did. The baboon has a surrogate mother!
Still, we were kind of always expecting the leopard to snap and just eat the baby. And things get a little dicey when she starts chewing on the baby's tail, but then you realize she's just trying to get the baby safely into the tree.
The two cuddle in the tree and again, the leopard looks like it's going to start gnawing on the baby baboon, but then she starts licking it! And cuddling! A happy (enough) ending! The baby cuddles the leopard as they fall asleep.
Now wait for this s--t. As the clip winds down, the narrator says:
"It was the cold that finally made the baby baboon go quiet.."
WHAT?!? WHY DID THE VIDEO CUT OFF? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BABY?
(Yeah. It died.)
