The hills are almost alive with the sound of music!
NBC's ambitious live special of The Sound of Music airs Thursday night and features country superstar Carrie Underwood and True Blood star Stephen Moyer taking on the iconic roles of Maria and Captain von Trapp from the classic Broadway musical (not the film version). And while viewers will have to wait until the special to hear Underwood's impressive pipes, we've got your exclusive first look at the star in all her braided-hair glory, from the rehearsals! Plus, we've got your first look at Underwood and Moyer's brood of very adorable children. Warning: It only gets cuter from here.
Though some very silly and ridiculous people have been sending some not-so-nice Twitter messages to Underwood for taking on the role made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1965 film version, we've got nothing but love for these adorable pictures of the Sound of Music Live! cast in action.
And we're not the only ones who approve of Underwood in the role as Andrews herself said, "Fifty years later, it's time somebody had another crack at it. I had the best time of my life doing it and it did wonderful things for me." (Though she does admit, "Doing it live must be so daunting.")
Taking on the roles of the von Trapp children are Ariane Rinehart (Liesl), Michael Nigro (Fredrich), Ella Watts-Gorman (Louisa), Joe West (Kurt), Sophia Caruso (Brigitta), Grace Rundhaug (Marta) and Peyton Ella (Gretl).
Here's a pic of them in the outfits that are—yes—made out of the curtains. Cute. Overload.
Also starring in the special? Broadway vets Laura Benanti (as the Captain's former fiancée Elsa Schrader), Private Practice's Audra McDonald (as Mother Abbess) and Smash star Christian Borle (as Max Detweiler).
The Sound of Music Live! airs tomorrow night at 8 p.m. on NBC.
(E! News and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
