Look out, Kate Middleton!

Princess Diana's fab fashion sense is still making headlines.

Case in point: One of Prince William's late mother's gowns just fetched a whopping $140,000, according to ABC News, at an auction house in South London.

Known as the Diaghilev dress, the floor-length strapless number was indeed fit for a princess thanks to its extravagant gold sequins, crystals and pearl embellishments. It also featured detachable sleeves and a matching headband that had somewhat of a Renaissance Fair quality to it—and is probably why Di favored wearing the fancy frock with a tiara rather than the costumey headpiece.

(And it looks like Middleton is finally following her famous mother-in-law's fashionable footsteps, having just stepped out in a tiara for the first time since the royal wedding earlier today!)

Princess Diana first spotted and fell in love with the gown at Red Cross Benefit back in 1986, and rather than having designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel create a custom one for her, she snapped up the runway version.

Just like Middleton, Di recycled her dress, wearing it in public three times, including to a banquet at the German Ambassador's home in London in 1986, a trip to the Royal Opera House and to the premiere of the James Bond film, The Living Daylights.

So, who snapped up the glamorous confection? Looks like an overseas museum that has yet to be named placed the winning bid.

And while many a gal might be disappointed she couldn't pony up the money to purchase the historic gown, at least there's a chance we can each have our fairy-tale princess moment if, and when, the museum puts it on display!
