Paul Walker and his daughter Meadow had been working on their relationship prior to his death.

A source tells E! News exclusively, Meadow had been living in California with family in recent years to be closer to her dad.

"Meadow and her dad have gotten closer in the past few years," the source said. "She moved to California and has developed a more meaningful relationship with him."

That included going to Brazil in the summer of 2012 to spend time with her father while he was filming a movie.

"Everyone is taking it hard but there has been a large outpouring of love and support for the family," the source continued.

The Fast and Furious star died in a car crash with his friend Roger Rodas Saturday, after the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT they were riding in crashed into a pole and caught fire.

Walker's fans and friends have visited the site of the crash in Valencia, Calif., including his Fast and Furious costar Tyrese, who arrived at the scene with a flower in his hand.

The 40-year-old late actor spent his final hours doing what he loved—attending a charity event for his organization, Reach Out Worldwide earlier Saturday.

Photographer Bill Townsend, who was at the event and photographed Walker there told E! News, the thesp "had been so happy" that day.

"[Paul] was there at the event and had managed to raise thousands and so many people had brought toys," Townsend said.

"So many people had come out to support the charity and he was with his friends," Townsend added. "It was a great day for him. He was so overwhelmed to have so much support."
