The 14th annual awards show, which took place tonight at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, canceled the standard red green carpet arrivals outdoors in lieu of covered protection from Sin City's current rainy weather.
Mexican singer-actress Lucero, who hosted tonight's festivities, took time to meet with the press backstage and said, "I think the rain is a good sign. It's rare that it rains in Las Vegas. What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas. So no one tell anyone it rained."
Well, that cat's out of the bag.
Regardless, the awards show continued with its telecast, and the biggest names in Latin music went on to thrill the crowd with live performances, hand out awards and honor each other's achievements.
The ceremony kicked off with a rendition of "Que Viva La Vida" by Puerto Rican reggaeton star Wisin, who entered the stage at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in a dune buggy.
Tonight's show marked the first U.S. appearance of the new Miss Universe, Venezuelan beauty Gabriela Isler. Carlos Santana, whose resident show is at nearby House of Blues in Mandalay Bay, along with TV host Don Francisco and singers Charo and Ricky Martin were among the number of star presenters.
The crowd went wild for superstar Marc Anthony and the Banda el Recodito and Paquita la del Barrio's serenade of Don Francisco from "Sabado Gigante." Martin and fellow Menudo alumnus Draco Rosa also teamed up together, giving fans a reunion to remember.
Pitbull's "Echa Pa'lla (Manos Pa'rriba)" won for best urban performance. "This is for all the Latinos in all the world," he said, and Carlos Vives took home the top honor of song of the year for "Volvi a Nacer."
Vives dedicated the award to the children of Latin America and his native Colombia. He also racked up awards for Best Tropical Fusion Album and Best Tropical Song.
