Sarah Silverman Slammed by Critic: Too Raunchy or Sexist Double Standard?

Sarah Silverman isn't exactly known for her G-rated sense of humor, but according to one writer at Variety, she's gone too far.

TV columnist Brian Lowry gave the comedienne a scathing review of her upcoming HBO special We Are Miracles.

According to Lowry, Silverman pushes "past the edge in a way that blunts her appeal" and "limited herself by appearing determined to prove she can be as dirty and disastrous as the boys."

He added that a majority of the famous funnylady's jokes are "more about shock value than cleverness."

But clearly some of the raunchier (OK, extremely raunchy) scenes struck a nerve with the writer.

"This isn't mean to suggest that female comics can't work blue," he explained in his review. "The lament here is that in the wrong hands it can feel gratuitous or become a crutch, whereas unlike many of her contemporaries, Silverman has enough tools that she can and should do more."

While Silverman has yet to respond to the critic's less-than-flattering views on her latest comedy special, something tell us that she's no stranger to taking some heat.

After all, the 42-year-old has made an illustrious career out of being one of the most ballsy female comics around.
