Christina Aguilera brings her star power to the new music video for A Great Big World's hit "Say Something."
That being said, though, the singer nevertheless serves up a certain subtleness to the clip, which is definitely appropriate given the tone of both the ballad and the video itself.
If you recall, the song was previously released featuring only A Great Big World's Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino. It was later rerecorded with Aguilera, and the indie pop act performed the new version with the Grammy winner on the Nov. 5 episode of The Voice. As a result, the track soon found its way to the top of the Billboard Digital Songs chart.
"We actually were thinking that she would take a verse and do all this belting stuff at the end, but she didn't want to do that, she wanted to let the song just be," Vaccarino told The Hollywood Reporter while discussing the collaboration.
"She wanted to let it breathe and just be open," Axl noted. "We've never heard her sound so vulnerable."
And from the sound—and look—of it, we think that was definitely the right way to go.
