Lamar Odom is busy hitting the court and training for his Los Angeles Clippers comeback in Rhode Island.

Why did the NBA star pick this secluded location to get back into tip-top shape?

"He was trying to avoid distractions," a source told E! News exclusively on Wednesday, Nov. 20. "Rhode Island is a small, relaxing place for him. There aren't people following him around. He wanted to get away so there would be no distractions and he could focus. It is the perfect place for him to get himself together."

And it's familiar territory for the veteran athlete, who arrived last weekend.

Khloé Kardashian Odom's hubby attended the University of Rhode Island and also played basketball on their team.

"He has been working with the players and assistant coaches," the insider said. "The plan is to get back and sign up with the Clippers. He is working and training and he is looking good."

The coaches are said to be happy with his progress during the workouts.

As for Odom's mood, who was spotted posing with some students on campus, he is in "good spirits, laughing, joking around and enjoying himself."

"I think Lamar didn't realize how much he loved basketball until it was gone and it is something he really wants to get back again," the source revealed. "He wants it and he wants to come back and that is half of the battle and for Lamar that's big."

The training on the East Coast is expected to last anywhere from a couple of more days to a week.

As for Khloé, she is in Australia to promote the Kardashian Kollection for Lipsy.

And while the Clippers deal isn't a done deal yet, Odom told the source that "I've got to get myself back together."

Looks like he is well on his way!
