The royal and his Walking With The Wounded teammates were supposed to leave for the South Pole on Monday, Nov. 18, but due to poor weather conditions they're staying in Cape Town, South Africa. Per the palace, their flight into Antarctica's Novo Airbase has been delayed at least 24 hours or until whether conditions have improved.
Once Harry, 29, and his teammates do arrive in the South Pole, they will begin acclimating their bodies to the extreme conditions. Then on Nov. 30, they will begin the 208-mile expedition across the South Pole! Palace officials hope the groups will all reach their South Pole destination by Dec. 16. (Hopefully Harry got his Christmas shopping done plenty ahead of time!)
Fortunately, Harry and his teammates, all of whom were injured in Afghanistan, have done some pre-South Pole prep. In September, they spent 24 hours in an ice chamber, practicing setting up camp in sub-zero temperatures with wind speeds up to 45 miles per hours.
One of Harry's teammates, Kate Phelp, confirmed that the handsome redhead really puts in the work like everyone else. "Oh God, absolutely," she said. "We wouldn't let it be any other way, and he wouldn't want it to be any other way."
Funds raised by Harry and his teammates' trek will benefit Walking With The Wounded, an organization that helps men and women to adjust and rebuild their lives after service.
