Body of Proof will not live to see another day.

Though sources confirmed to E! News that ABC was looking to possibly resurrect the medical drama after canceling it in May after three seasons, star Dana Delany has revealed that Body of Proof will not be returning.

"Sorry to disappoint some, but #bodyofproof will not be resurrected. May she rest in peace," Delany wrote to her Twitter followers. "Time for new adventures!"

Curse you TV Gods for getting fans' hopes up! That was just cruel and unusual punishment, no?

When reports of Body of Proof's possible renewal surfaced, sources spilled to us that ABC was seeing if it was even logistically possible to bring the series back, considering the actors and writers had been released from their contracts. (But our insider said it was pretty unlikely the series would've been brought back from the TV graveyard.)

Another concern? The series' executive producer Evan Katz is hard at work on another big project, 24: Live Another Day, Fox's buzzed-about 24 followup starring Kiefer Sutherland.

Body of Proof earned pretty good ratings for the network, attracting an average of 11 million viewers per episode and a 2.0 rating in the all-important adults 18-49 demo. In fact, it was ABC's third largest drama series of the season last year and fans of the show are fiercely dedicated and loyal, leading the show to place second in our 2013 Save One Show Tournament.

It's not hard to understand why they would've considered Body of Proof back at midseason, given the less-than-stellar performances of their new dramas: Lucky 7 was canceled after two episodes, Betrayal isn't bringing in big ratings and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is failing to capture the same magic as its mothershow, Once Upon a Time. In fact, the net has only picked up one series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. thus far this season.
