Watch: Doug Hutchison Breaks Silence on Split

Doug Hutchison doesn't see a reconciliation in his near future.

"No, not really," the 53-year-old actor said frankly during an exclusive sit-down with E! News when asked if he could see wife Courtney Stodden changing her mind about their separation.

"I'm not banking on that at all," Hutchison continued. "Life is incredibly unpredictable. I mean, look what we're going through now!"

He and Stodden, 19, announced last week that they had separated after less than three years of marriage, calling it a "mutual and amicable decision."

A rep for the two said that Stodden was looking forward to moving forward in life as "an unmarried single young adult," but that she and her ex would continue to live together, albeit in separate bedrooms, and Hutchison would continue to "comanage her career."

In talking to E! News, Hutchison used the D-word.

"When I took those vows with her, when we got married, I took them to heart, through better or worse, richer or poorer, sickness or health," he said. "And you know what? Divorce doesn't change that."

There is no record of papers being filed for a divorce or legal separation as yet.

The Green Mile actor admitted that the breakup did come as a surprise at first.

"It kind of hit me from left field at first," he said. "I'll be honest, I really had hoped in my heart that Court and I, like, against all odds, could go the distance."

The odds were against them, considering she was only 17 when they tied the knot—but Hutchison told us that Stodden "absolutely" remains his soul mate.

"That will never, ever change," he said. "That will remain consistent until the day I die."
